About Us

Shelter Music Maine is inspired by and modeled after Shelter Music Boston. We owe deep thanks and gratitude to its founder, Julie Leven, who continues to offer guidance, support and mentorship.

Shelter Music Maine’s mission is to provide live, interactive chamber music concerts at homeless shelters and other sheltering environments throughout Maine. We believe everyone deserves access to the healing powers of classical music, no matter their circumstances.

In June 2024 Shelter Music Maine was awarded a Community Building Grant from the Maine Community Foundation! We are extremely grateful, and will use this grant to program many more performances in Penobscot County.
